FAQ

Everything you need to know about IPAM membership, task groups, webinars and how to get in touch.

Membership

Anyone able to demonstrate a genuine interest in adaptation metrics is welcome to join IPAM as an individual member. Any entity with a confirmed interest in adaptation metrics may also apply to become a member organization.

Candidates submit a CV showing their motivation, sign up online and agree to a basic charter. Acceptance of candidacies is at the discretion of the Steering Committee.

Apply on the “How to get involved” page.

  • Participate in any IPAM events, in the sectoral work of task groups and in projects, without obligation.
  • Receive regular updates on all IPAM activities.
  • Propose to present your own work through IPAM tools such as webinars.
  • Access a datasheet listing all other members, to develop direct connections.

An individual member is registered as a person, independently of their affiliation at the time of registration. You remain a member regardless of any change in affiliation, as long as you abide by the rules of conduct. Membership is otherwise removed only at the member’s own request.

The organization must have at least two representatives affiliated as IPAM individual members, a functional website, evidence of its interest in adaptation metrics, and must agree to the membership charter. Member organizations support IPAM’s vision and objectives, financially or in kind.

Accepted members gain full voting rights in Steering Committee elections and may stand as candidates themselves, appointing a representative and at least one deputy to attend meetings. The Steering Committee may nominate member organizations to represent IPAM at events, and member organizations may receive IPAM funds subject to its approval.

To retain their status, member organizations engage in at least one of the following: regular participation in Steering Committee meetings, chairing a task group, logistical, technical or financial support to IPAM activities, representing IPAM at events, contributing to IPAM’s communications, or hosting IPAM webinars.

Task groups & activities

IPAM experts contribute on a voluntary basis to thematic working groups, UNFCCC submissions, internal or global webinars, side events (mainly at COPs) and the drafting of position or policy papers. Contribution to the task groups is entirely voluntary, with the only requirement being registration as an IPAM member.

The IPAM Tools, Techniques & Member Network convenes approximately once a month. It is also the place for members to get to know each other, build partnerships on individual projects or incubate ideas for new task groups. Since May 2025, a dedicated task group has been developing the “Principles for Responsible Application of Artificial Intelligence to Support Climate Adaptation Metrics, Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning”. Other task groups work on IPAM’s internal priorities, including strategy, governance, website development and funding strategy.

IPAM regularly hosts virtual meetings of four kinds: webinars presenting IPAM’s own products, webinars featuring the work of individual members or member organizations, webinars with guest hosts from outside the network, and internal webinars — mostly focused on capacity building — open to IPAM members only. Whatever the audience, every webinar deals exclusively with adaptation metrics.

Yes. Since COP26 in Glasgow, IPAM has attended every Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC through its individual members and member organizations, hosting or supporting seven side events across five editions. IPAM also follows the work on the Global Goal on Adaptation and the Global Stocktake and submits comments.
