How to get involved

Anyone with a genuine interest in adaptation metrics is welcome to join IPAM — as an individual expert or as a member organization. Here are the two pathways, what they bring, and where our members are.

Two pathways

Join as an individual or as an organization

Individual members join in a personal capacity; member organizations support IPAM's vision and objectives, financially or in kind. Each pathway has its own requirements and benefits.

Individual member

Becoming an individual member

Pathway

Anyone able to demonstrate a genuine interest in adaptation metrics is welcome to join IPAM. To become an Individual Member, candidates must submit a CV showing their motivation, sign up online, and agree to a basic charter. Acceptance of candidacies is at the discretion of the Steering Committee.

Benefits

An IPAM Individual Member is registered as a person, independently of their affiliation at the time of registration — which may change over time. Members are entitled to participate in any IPAM events, sectoral work of task groups, and projects, without obligation, and will receive regular updates on all IPAM activities.

Members may propose to present their own work through IPAM tools such as webinars, and have access to a datasheet listing all other members, allowing them to develop direct connections.

Staying a member

An IPAM Individual Member remains a member regardless of any change in affiliation, as long as they abide by the rules of conduct. Membership will otherwise be removed only at the member's own request.

Pathway

Any entity with a confirmed interest in adaptation metrics may apply for membership to support IPAM's vision and objectives, financially or in kind. Candidates must have at least two representatives affiliated as IPAM individual members, a functional website, evidence of their interest in adaptation metrics, and must agree to the membership charter.

Benefits

Accepted members gain full voting rights in Steering Committee elections and may stand as candidates themselves, appointing a representative and at least one deputy to attend meetings.

The Steering Committee may nominate member organizations to represent IPAM at events, and member organizations may receive IPAM funds subject to its approval.

Retaining membership

To retain their status, member organizations should engage in at least one of the following:

  • Regular participation in Steering Committee meetings
  • Chairing a task group
  • Logistical, technical or financial support to IPAM activities
  • Representing IPAM at events
  • Contributing to IPAM's communications
  • Hosting IPAM webinars
